A practical guide to responsible AI governance

Governance does not have to slow you down. A lightweight framework can give teams confidence to move faster with fewer surprises.

Governance as an enabler

Many teams treat AI governance as a gate at the end of a project. That makes it slow and adversarial. The better approach is to make a few clear decisions early, so teams know what is allowed before they build.

Start with risk tiers

Not every use case needs the same scrutiny. A drafting assistant for internal notes is very different from a system that affects customer pricing. Sort use cases into tiers and match the review effort to the risk.

  • Low risk: internal productivity, human in the loop

  • Medium risk: customer-facing content with review

  • High risk: decisions that affect people’s rights or money

Keep it living

Review your policy every quarter. Models, regulations, and your own experience will change quickly, and your framework should change with them.
